MBA has originated in the United States and has more than 90 years of history. There
are about 100,000 students completing MBA course each year in United States, accounting for more than half of the total number in the world. Since the formal establishment of the Harvard Business School in 1908, the number of MBA graduates in the United States has exceeded 1 million. They are active in all fields, including the finance, circulation and production, and playing the important roles in the U.S. business community.
Application conditions for U.S MBA
MBA is one of the business studies in United States with higher requirements. In addition to TOEFL test, GMAT and GPA are also required. Business Schools in United States generally require the MBA applicants to provide 2-3 letters of recommendation and essays. The most obvious difference between the applications for MBA and general postgraduate schools is that U.S. business schools often require MBA applicants to have at least two years of full-time working experiences.
I. GMAT
For the purpose of M7, the approval possibility of application is higher if the score is more than 750, and there are still many good business schools are available for the score more than 700. The score of writing shall not be less than 4 points. This test aims to examine your academic ability in English rather than your level of English proficiency.
II. TOEFL
The purpose of TOEFL is different from that of GMAT. TOEFL is aimed at non-native English speakers and tests the English proficiency of applicants to determine whether students are able to correctly communicate with the professors and students in completely English-speaking environment.
III. GPA
As one of the main standards for measuring the applicant performance in undergraduate study by U.S. postgraduate schools, the excellent score of GPA is a correct reflection of overall academic quality of applicants. The first-class U.S. business schools generally set the minimum score of GPA for applicants. GPA at undergraduate phase shall be above 3.0 and preferably more than 3.5 for top 10 business schools.
IV. Working experiences
The most obvious difference between the applications for MBA and general postgraduate schools is that U.S. business schools often require MBA applicants to have at least two years of full-time working experiences. The freshmen admitted by HBS in recent years have an average of more than three years of working experiences and have generally been promoted to more important management positions in the enterprise with the rich practical management experiences.
V Letter of recommendation
U.S. business schools generally require the U.S. MBA applicants to provide 2-3 letters of recommendation which are the very important application materials. In addition to all the forms and essays you fill out yourself, the school needs to know how your leaders or workmates evaluate you. Unlike the application for postgraduate school, the letter of recommendation for MBA shall preferably be prepared by the professionals who have the working relationship with applicant, and the professors at university may not be the suitable referrals.
VI. Essay
Essay refers to the article written by applicants as required by school. It is the most important creative and hardest written document in the application of MBA. From the end of August to the beginning of September each year, U.S. business schools will publish the application materials for the freshmen of MBA who will be admitted in autumn next year on their websites, which include the topics of latest essay. Generally, U.S. business schools expect to know the various qualifications of applicants through the essay, including the leadership skills, ability to handle complex issues, team spirit, good moral character, etc.
